«As the mycelia grow, they constantly encounter tree roots. If the species combination is the right one, chemical signals spark and a remarkable biological event unfolds. Fungus and tree come together to form mycorrhizae, a symmbiotic partnership that allows both to benefit. The tree provides the fungus with sugars created from sunlight. The mycelia in turn enhance the tree’s ability to absorb nutrients and water from the soil. They also produce growth-regulating chemicals that promote the production of new roots and enhance the immune system.»

Wade Dabis, Rainforest, as quoted in the book «The Lost Language of Plants»

Inspired by the Book: «The Lost Language of Plants» by Stephen Harrod Buhner and due to a personal situation that made me feel like somebody pulled the rug from under my feet, I started with drawings of the root of a dead peach tree (next page on the left) which I consider a hommage to the famous «Pair of Gloves» of Meret Oppenheim.

The choice of stiching on paper was part of an intuitive approach that only made sense to me in retrospect: its a very slow process with the traditional purpose of mending and fixing things.
The drawings in this booklet mirror my personal life, pick up on actual events and show some unused materials of sketches for a stage-design at Theater Basel.
